Jorge nibbled at the peanut butter and jelly sandwich that his mother had thoughtlessly forgotten to take the crust off of. He couldn't help but notice how Maria fumbled with her CapriSun as their eyes met. This was the humble beginning of an epic romance that would last the entire second semester of the school year.
Of course there were bad times, like the week that Maria got mono, but there were also good times... the sock hop, trips to the mall, and omg, the late night texting! In spite of all these memories, as the semester came to a close, Jorge faced a great dilemma. Next year would be his freshman year of high school, yet sadly for Maria she would still only be an 8th grader. How could he be seen with her? How could this possibly go on? Worse, how would he be able to end it? Perhaps a small token of his affection, something subtle would do the trick. But, in all honesty, Jorge was never looking back.
